Kamikaze Cards evolved from a silly idea after a season of karaoke league. Those of us who sing karaoke regularly are keenly aware of the difficulty of choosing a worthy song. Some of us even keep journals of songs we’ve sung and lists of songs we’d like to sing. Still, there’s something magical about not having the choice at all. Being thrust upon the stage can produce terrible results, but it can also produce amazing performances.
Some of the best performances I’ve witnessed to date were completely unscripted, with the participants having no idea what song they would sing. It is from this place of mischief and tomfoolery that Kamikaze Cards was born. I set out to make a deck of cards that would serve as a random influence on the song choice. From there, the game took on a life of its own. Its final published form is still taking shape, and I’m really excited to see where it goes!
